Objective Severity Assessment from Disordered Voice Using Estimated Glottal Airflow
نویسندگان
چکیده
In clinical practice, the severity of disordered voice is typically rated by a professional with auditory-perceptual judgment. The present study aims to automate this assessment procedure, in an attempt to make the assessment objective and less laborintensive. In the automated analysis, glottal airflow is estimated from the analyzed voice signal with an inverse filtering algorithm. Automatic assessment is realized by a regressor that predicts from temporal and spectral features of the glottal airflow. A regressor trained on overtone amplitudes and harmonic richness factors extracted from a set of continuous-speech utterances was applied to a set of sustained-vowel utterances, giving severity predictions (on a scale of ratings from 0 to 100) with an average error magnitude of 14.

Assessment of disordered voices based on an optimized glottal source model
In this paper, a method for the assessment of disordered voices is proposed. A feature named mean opening quotient (MOQ) obtained from the glottal source estimation is used as an acoustic cue to summarize the degree of severity of the voice disorder. The analysis method uses the empirical mode decomposition algorithm to estimate the glottal source excitation signal from the speech signal. The l...
متن کاملSteady Flow Through Modeled Glottal Constriction
The airflow in the modeled glottal constriction was simulated by the solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations for laminar flow, and the corresponding Reynolds equations for turbulent flow in generalized, nonorthogonal coordinates using a numerical method. A two-dimensional model of laryngeal flow is considered and aerodynamic properties are calculated for both laminar and turbulent steady flows...
متن کاملGlottal closure, transglottal airflow, and voice quality in healthy middle-aged women.
Seventeen healthy women, 45 to 61 years old, were examined using videofiberstroboscopy during phonation at three loudness levels. Two phoniatricians evaluated glottal closure using category and ratio scales. Transglottal airflow was studied by inverse filtering of the oral airflow signal recorded in a flow mask (Glottal Enterprises System) during the spoken phrase /ba:pa:pa:pa:p/ at three loudn...
متن کاملAerodynamic and acoustic characteristics of the adult African American voice.
Laryngeal aerodynamic and acoustic characteristics of African American voice production were examined from vowel samples produced by ten adult female and ten adult male speakers. The data were compared with that for a control group consisting of ten adult female and ten adult male White speakers, matched for age, height, and weight. All measures were analyzed using Cspeech 4.0. Aerodynamic meas...
متن کاملA comparison of type I thyroplasty and arytenoid adduction.
Glottal incompetence is a common laryngeal disorder causing impaired swallowing and phonation. The resultant voice has been characterized as weak and breathy with a restricted pitch range. Currently, medialization thyroplasty and arytenoid adduction are two of the surgical treatments for patients with glottal incompetence. However, few studies have evaluated the changes in objective measures of...
